Learnings of Microfinance and Livelihood... Home Learnings of Microfinance and Livelihood under Central India Initiative

Access to finance by the poor and vulnerable groups is a prerequisite for poverty reduction and social cohesion. The objective of financial inclusion is to extend the scope of activities of the organized financial system, to include within its ambit people with low incomes. Through graduated credit, the attempt must be to lift the poor from one level to another, so that they come out of poverty. The different partners working with CInI have adopted different approaches in addressing the issue of financial services for the poor. The different models are: SHG Bank Linkage Model (followed by PRADAN); NGO-MF-SHG Linkage Model (followed by NBJK, SUPPORT, NEEDS); MFI-JLG Model (followed by BASIX-IGS). There are various approaches vis-à-vis the roles of SHGs, namely that of financial service provider, platform for women empowerment, platform to organize the communities, platform to initiate other development programmes etc.
