Kharif Maize Stabilisation
KMS...
Home
Approximately 90% of Maize in India, is grown in Kharif.
In India, area, production
and productivity of maize are 81.20 lakh ha, 197.0 m. tones and 2435 kg/ha. Maize Productivity in India
is far below the world average i.e. 2780 Kg/ha. The yield of Maize in Tribal
areas is further lower up to 1225 Kg/ha and a large number of families could secure
only 5 to 6 months staple maize diet from their farms. Kharif Maize Stabilization,
a strategic theme of CInI, targeting hunger and poverty, aims for year-round food
sufficiency of maize grower at local level. Since Maize based food sufficiency
also has some inter relations with fodder and maize seed deficiency, KMS also aims
to achieve fodder and seed sufficiency at local levels, in the long run.
