Documented traditional Irrigation systems are taken up for piloting with local level organisations wherein CInI provides technical and monitoring support and field level co-ordination and implementation is taken by local grass root level organisations. Piloting helps in standardization and upscaling of viable technologies which will further help in mainstreaming with main Government sponsored programmes. Different field partners associated with DBIM are:

 

Sampurna Gram Vikas Kendra (SGVK) : Collectives for Integrated Livelihood Initiatives (CInI) in collaboration with SGVK a grassroot level NGO has initiated a pilot project titled Revival of Ahar-Pyne: A Traditional Water Management System in Palamu District of Jharkhand”  in Angra village of Patan block of Palamu district. The project is funded by Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and designed for a period of one year. The project got operationalised in November, 2009 with SGVK ensuring the field level implementation of the project and CInI providing technical and monitoring support in addition to the process documentation of the project. The key objective of the project is to systematically revive the traditional Ahar-Pyne system supplemented with improved agriculture practices to ensure livelihood sustainability of 150 families of Angra village belonging to Oraon Tribe. On successful completion, the project would bring an additional 70 acres of land under irrigation during kharif and 20 acres of land under irrigation during Rabi season through revival of Ahar pyne system and promoting flow irrigation.

 

Phad : To enhance the capacity of organisations working in the field of Diversion Based Irrigation, CInI provided technical support to Action For Rural Technology (ART) in developing proposal on “Creation of sustainable livelihood through development and efficient utilization of Phad irrigation system with community participation in Vidharbha Region”. The project was operationalised in April, 2010. CInI and ART would be involved to implement the project in a period of 3 years time. CInI would use its linkages and expertise to build the capacities of the NGO team based at local level and guide through the implementation process. More focus would be on institution (WUGs) building through experiential learning to address all issues pertaining to Participatory Irrigation Management and manage agricultural production and marketing programme. A detailed process documentation and dissemination is planned to facilitate similar project in potential areas. The project intervention will cover 123 household comprising 542 population in 10 villages of Ralegaon, Pandharkawda, Zari, Yavatmal and Maregaon block of Yavatmal district. Ten Phad systems will be developed in the proposed project in the stipulated project duration. Gross cropped area of 475 acres of land will be ensured irrigation with 340 Acres in Kharif and 135 Acres in Rabi.

MPRLP : A proposal “Reinforcing Livelihood Initiatives by Developing Diversion Based Irrigation Management” is in the finalization process submitted to SDTT. The project is for two year period in collaboration with Madhya Pradesh Rural Livelihoods Project to be implemented in Dindori District. CInI would play the role of resource organisation and take responsibility of resource mobilization . During the implementation phase CInI would be involved in developing monitoring framework, conducting/commissioning studies needed during the project, liaison with other big Public and Private institutions for linking village institutions with them to sustain the benefits and providing periodic technical support.

The project aims to promote livelihood in tribal areas through integration of livelihood options forming Diversion Irrigation Management (DIM) as an assured irrigation source by :-

·         Utilising and developing irrigation           potential by diverting water from natural resources.

·         Enhancing livelihoods by encouraging     agriculture diversification and promoting other livelihood activities.

·         Promoting and establishing community   based Institutions to ensure sustainability of initiatives.
