Learning of Community Based Organisation
under
Central India Initiatives
1) The Annual Partners Meet
of 2009 became the right forum to draw the attention of the partners on the CBOs
that they were promoting as well as to understand the challenges and opportunities
that these CBOs provided for poverty alleviation at the household level.
2) The discussions centered on some of the key questions related to the appropriate
legal framework required for developing economic viable CBOs, also the requirement
of capital that is cheap and easily accessible.
3) The emphasis was given to understand that each CBO is unique and to a great extent
dependent on the vision of the promoter organization, the clarity of purpose and
functions, the importance of mentoring and support.
4) Also debatable issues emerged whether, both the social empowerment and economic
empowerment agenda can co- exist in a single CBO, or the functions needs to be segregated.
5) The importance for building clarity on the guiding principles that are both common
and unique for CBOs and impact indicators for monitoring and support needs to be
developed.
