| About Us |
| The IWMI - Tata Water Policy Research Programme initiated research studies in the Central India region in the name of Central India Initiative in 2003, focusing on enhancing the livelihood of tribal communities in the central Indian states. The Sir Ratan Tata Trust has promoted CInI as one of its key initiative under the Rural Livelihood and Communities (RLC) portfolio and has initiated key field projects in the states. |
| Various field projects are underway in the states of Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh focusing specifically on enhancing the livelihood of tribal communities through land and water resources interventions. The projects are being implemented by Civil Society Organizations involved in improving the livelihoods and quality of life of about 4,00,000 tribal families through a range of interventions in the project villages such as: |
water resources development;
improved agricultural practices; |
horticulture development; |
formation and strengthening of village level committees for efficient management of the resources; |
off-farm income generation activities. |
| The Trust’s intention of taking the initiative ahead in a focused manner has resulted in the establishment of the CInI Cell in July 2005 as nodal agency for CInI. CInI has developed state specific strategies, which form the basis for initiating field projects in each state, falling under CInI. The Cell has developed state strategies for Jharkhand, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. |
| The CInI Cell got registered as a separate Society, named as Collectives for Integrated Livelihood Initiatives (CInI) on May 17, 2007 under Indian Society Act 1860, with its head office in Jamshedpur. CInI is working closely with the Civil Society Organizations, Corporates, International Research Organizations and Donors in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Jharkhand and West Bengal. |
